Imported account, group and Leopard

When I installed Mac OS X v10.5, aka Leopard, on my computer, I decided to reinstall it completely and to not update may 10.4.11. So I made a clone of this 10.4 and erased my hard drive. Then, after the installation, I imported my account using the Migration Assistant.

Everything was ok except one thing, in the Finder Info window, I had “unknown” instead of a group name. Here is what I did to have something consistent with the rest of the system… (more…)

Apple USB Ethernet Adapter and non MacBook Air computers

When Apple mentioned the USB Ethernet Adapter (link to AppleStore, I’m not affiliated in anyway, it’s the only page I found about the product on Apple website) was only for the sexy MacBook Air, I was disappointed. It was for me a useful little accessory I had been waiting for very long. But, things may be a little different in fact. (more…)

Get rid of that awful “modal” help window in Leopard

Leopard has brought so many improvements we have to believe Apple when they say there are more than 300… But it also came with some little changes, some are good, others are not that much.

One thing I hate in Leopard is the new help window. Have you noticed that this one is now always on top of other windows ?

CUPS and rss on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Mac OS X v10.5, aka Leopard, comes with an improved version of CUPS web admin tool (after all, CUPS is now owned by Apple, this may have an influence). Among the new features, one caught my eyes, rss feeds (I love rss feeds, some friends can witness). Unfortunately, after testing it didn’t work, I only got a 404 error from CUPS. That’s why I searched a way to make this feature work properly.
